What : an exploration on sustainability from an artistic perspective using design psychology in the context of footwear design. Using pareidolia's effects as a foundation and concept, a design that takes an artistic approach to promoting longevity in footwear focuses on developing an attachment through the object.

Why : After food industry and construction, fashion and its supply chain are the third most polluting industries. It accounted for 10% of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions, emitting 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2 every year, more than the shipping and aviation industries combined. If current trends continue, greenhouse gas emissions from the industry are expected to rise by more than 50% by 2030. These emissions are produced by processes that occur across the industry's supply chain, from raw materials to manufacturing and processing to transportation and shipping.

In the footwear industry, most of the sustainability approaches are focused on either process of creating, manufacturing, supplying, and getting rid of shoes in a way that reduces negative impact on the environment, conserve resources, and supports social responsibility during every phase of the product's lifecycle, somehow, the word “Sustainability” are broad terms that have different meanings to each other individual and different phase of footwear product lifecycle The majority of different approaches to sustainability in the footwear industry often focus on the production process or the end of life of the product.

A principle in design that promotes usage and longevity in footwear is overlooked. An approach in aesthetics through psychology in creating longevity needs to be explored as Longevity is related to users mindset on psychology contribute to their judgmental process if they wanted to keep wearing or throw it away it, this part, played a crucial role in full-circle of sustainability.

How : An approach that brings into account sustainability from the perspective of the designer in connection to the footwear industry, with the aim of developing an aesthetic that utilizes the use of psychology to encourage longevity in footwear. The method is done through a sketch design, clays exploration and 3D modeling software to enhance the effects of pareidolia, through the aesthetic of biomimicry which inspired from automobile design is utilized in the process of developing a prototype.
